Richard McKey
is a prolific local artist whose works have been shown in Washington D.C., New Orleans and throughout the South. In August of 2009 he decided to open Fondren Art Gallery at 601 Duling Avenue to provide an ongoing venue for local artists. The Gallery features an eclectic collection of abstract, expressionist, experimental and local art while providing a welcoming environment to the curious as well as the art enthusiast.

Ten years earlier, in 2000, Richard, then contractor, transitioned from building to artwork when he completed his art studio at 3242 North State Street. McKey continues to showcase his sculptures and create his artwork in this studio space. The studio itself quickly became an inspiration to local artists, a photo opportunity for travelers and a curiosity to those who drive past. Richard welcomes visitors to his studio by appointment.
